Former S&D President Julia Lobo sadly passed away last week at the age of 86. Julia was an integral part of Doncaster Tennis Club for years: as a tennis mum she drove her son, Michael Davis, a former Yorkshire Junior Champion, to tournaments all over the country. As a member of the S&D she served on the committee for several years and was President in 2002. As a member of Doncaster, she was Club Secretary and Ladies Captain for many years. She volunteered hours and hours of her time to help with junior coaching, the huge Spring Bank Doncaster Junior Tournament and the integration of new members into social and team tennis. She was a very good player herself, playing Division 1 Ladies and Mixed into her late sixties when she became ill. She was extremely sharp at the net, but her signature shot was the lob! She represented Yorkshire in the Veterans League.
Many of the S&D members will know Julia very well. She was a lovely, inspiring lady and had a big impact on local tennis.
Her funeral will take place on Friday 8th November at 1pm, at Rose Hill Crematorium, Ascot Avenue, Cantley, Doncaster, DN4 6HE.
